Experience
I have taught students from pre-school to university level.
- 2003-2004: Teacher at the Children’s Center (Yellow Springs, Ohio)
- 2004-2005: Completed MEd in Early Childhood Education at Ohio State University, including student teaching at Indianola Alternative Elementary School (Columbus, Ohio)
- 2005-2007: 2nd grade teacher at Bel Pre Elementary School (Silver Spring, Maryland)
- 2007-2008: Teaching Assistant, Making of the Modern World program (University of California, San Diego)
- 2010-Present: Field Research Coordinator, Mexican Migration Field Research Program (University of California, San Diego)
In my current position as Field Research Coordinator for the Mexican Migration Field Research Program (MMFRP), I teach students how to develop research projects, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and data analysis write-up.
In the 2010-2011 academic year (see the syllabus for the fall, winter, and spring quarters), I worked with 6 groups of undergraduate and graduate students throughout the 2010-2011 academic year as they carried out research in Oaxaca, Mexico and among Oaxacan migrants in California. The results of this research will be published in the book The Wall Between Us: An Indigenous Community in Mexico and the United States, to be released in 2012.
In the 2011-2012 academic year, MMFRP will have a public health focus (see fall quarter syllabus). I will continue my work as the Field Research Coordinator and be a co-instructor on the course, guiding students throughout the research process from research question development to publication, which will take the form of articles in academic journals.
