My project examines how soccer in the United States has come to occupy a paradoxical position as both a “mainstream” and a “foreign” sport. Through ethnographic and archival work, I examine how soccer has become “domesticated” in the United States since the 1960s. Read More.

Beginning in 2007, I have been a researcher, field research coordinator, and co-instructor for the Mexican Migration Field Research Program. Through this program, I have carried out research with Mexican immigrants in the United States and their families in Mexico and published the results in several books. Read More.
Other Research
I have carried out 3 other projects: 1) A study of Mexican immigrants in Ohio and their families in Michoacán as an example of immigration to so-called new destinations. This project formed the basis of my master’s thesis. 2) During the 2009-2010 academic year, I was a research for Professor John Skrentny. I contributed research for several different projects, one of which was the chapter that Dr. Skrentny wrote for the book Reaching for a New Deal: Ambitious Governance, Economic Meltdown, and Polarized Politics in Obama’s First Two Years. 3) A study of the British diaspora carried out by the think tank ippr (Institute for Public Policy Research).
